Harris vs. Trump: Latest Presidential Poll Shows Small Lead Growing Substantially

Harris vs. Trump: Latest Poll Shows Kamala Harris Expanding Lead

Vice President Kamala Harris is significantly widening her lead over former President Donald Trump, according to a recent Fairleigh Dickinson University survey. Harris now holds a seven-point advantage nationally, with 50% support compared to Trump’s 43%.

The poll reveals that Harris’ lead grows notably when voters consider issues related to race and gender. Specifically, when the survey prompts respondents to think about the candidates’ gender, Harris’ support rises to 52%, compared to Trump’s 42%. When the focus shifts to race, Harris’ lead expands to 14 points, with 53% support versus Trump’s 39%.

Dan Cassino, a professor of government and politics at Fairleigh Dickinson and the executive director of the poll, notes, “When voters are prompted to consider the race or gender of the candidates, Trump’s support drops significantly, while Harris benefits.” He adds, “This shows that highlighting identity issues is disadvantageous for Trump and advantageous for Harris.”

Other notable findings include:

  • Harris leads Trump 50% to 43% among likely voters.
  • Both candidates enjoy 95% support from their respective parties.
  • Harris has a 38% to 33% lead over Trump among independent voters.
  • Seven percent of voters are considering other candidates.

Cassino also pointed out that Trump’s emphasis on whiteness and masculinity, which was once seen as a strength, may now be working against him.

While Harris has taken over the presidential ticket from Joe Biden, her platform largely continues Biden’s policies, focusing on issues like price gouging, tax cuts for families, and reducing homebuying and rental costs.

Trump, meanwhile, is eager to return to the White House to address unfinished business from his first term.
